Lady Gaga's New Album Will Be 'Insane'
'Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her,' Gaga's co-manager says of the follow-up to Born This Way.

<P>If there's one positive that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> fans can take from her decision to cancel a <a href="/news/articles/1685564/lady-gaga-islam-threat-indonesia-concert.jhtml">June 3 concert in Indonesia</a>, perhaps it's this: at least she'll have more time to work on her album.</P><P>Yes, though she's currently in the midst of a two-year world tour, Gaga is already hard at work on the follow-up to 2011's <i>Born This Way</i> and, according to her co-manager, she's going to push the boundaries even further this time around (which is sure to please those <a href="/news/articles/1685874/lady-gaga-indonesian-concert.jhtml">Indonesian Islamic groups</a>).</P><P>"There's a lot of work to come, [I'm] very excited about it," Vincent Herbert revealed in a <a href="http://thatgrapejuice.net/2012/05/exclusive-lady-gaga-manager-dishes-album/" target="_blank">new interview</a> with website That Grape Juice. "[It's] just [an] insane, great record. She's on tour right now, but it's just going to be a great record. Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her. We're doing it on the road right now, so it's a little hard, but it's going to be great."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga Has The Title And Concept For Her Next Album" id="vid:717202" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Herbert wouldn't reveal specifics — tentative release date, title, who she's been working with, etc. — about the new album, but the news that she's recording on the road is actually in keeping with the way she began work on <I>Born This Way,</i> when standout tracks like <a href="/news/articles/1664761/lady-gaga-marry-the-night-fernando-garibay.jhtml">"Marry The Night"</a> took shape with producer Fernando Garibay during her long-running Monster Ball Tour.</P><P>"I just kind of got on the American leg of the tour ... and she goes, 'I want to write another song that can define where I'm at with this album and my life,' " Garibay told MTV News last year. "I go back to the studio bus; I'm just working on parts ... and then, two hours later, she comes offstage and she goes, 'Do you have something to play me?' And I go, 'I do, actually.'</P><P>"So I played her the instrumental for 'Marry the Night,' and she goes, 'Open up a mic,' " Garibay continued. "She starts laying down the whole song, like, off the cuff ... right off the stage, using the energy of that crowd and going into the studio, it was amazing. Ke$ha Calls Bob Dylan Cover 'An Emotional Purging'
Pop singer sings 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right' for Amnesty International anniversary album.

<P>It's hard to associate <a href="/music/artist/_kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a> with songs about anything other than hot guys, body glitter and partying. But she's defying her usual topics of interest for human rights organization Amnesty International. The singer is one of the many musicians on the org's <i>Chimes of Freedom</i> compilation of Bob Dylan's music, out January 24.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Ke$ha Calls Bob Dylan Cover Choice 'An Accident'" id="vid:720838" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>When MTV News spoke with K-Dollar Sign last week about her <a href="/news/articles/1676172/kesha-sleazy-remix.jhtml">all-star remix of "Sleazy,"</a> she also opened up about switching gears vocally and emotionally for her version of Dylan's classic "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right."</P><P>"I mean, I think it's pretty well known that he's one of, if not my most, favorite artists of all time and ... one of the most amazing lyricists as well — the original storyteller," she explained. "So I love Bob Dylan and this was just, like, a dream. When they asked me to do a cover, I was just, like, salivating and going through all my records. It was so fun. It was the best homework assignment you could possibly have."</P><P>K's version of Dylan's song is a slow-burning, heartbreaking ode to the already heartbreaking classic, where she channels Dylan through lyrics like "Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say/ To try and make me change my mind and stay/ We never did too much talkin' anyway/ So don't think twice, it's all right."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="What Is The Biggest Perk Of Being A Headliner?" id="vid:642810" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>Ke$ha had originally intended to record another Dylan track, but when she heard that someone else had their sights set on it, she settled on "Don't Think Twice," prompting a catharsis she could never have imagined.</P><P>"This song was kind of an accident. I sat down and this is the first take that I ever sang," she recalled. "I just sat down on my bed for the first time after months of being on tour and I just started crying, and it was kind of like an emotional purging, and you can hear it on the record."</P><P>In addition to Ke$ha and her contribution, the album will feature 75 other Dylan classics recorded by nearly 80 artists including Adele, Miley Cyrus, "Glee" star Darren Criss, My Chemical Romance, Evan Rachel Wood and Sugarland. The album pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of Amnesty International.</p>

Adele: March 2012 cover girl of Vogue
On her 'loud' personality: “I am quite loud and bolshie,” she says (British slang for unruly and clamorous). “I’m a big personality. I walk into a room, big and tall and loud.” Indeed. There is no doubt when Adele is in the building. The rule of thumb for protecting one’s vocal cords, she tells me, is: If people are more than an arm’s length away, you shouldn’t talk to them. “But I am like, Wah! Wah! Wah!,” she says, laughing. “It’s really bad.”
On giving up drinking last May: “Don’t like drinking anymore. I think I got it out of my system. D’yaknowhaImean?”
On her vocal troubles: “I’ve been singing properly every day since I was about fifteen or sixteen and I have never had any problems with my voice, ever. I’ve had a sore throat here and there, had a cold and sung through it, but that day it just went while I was onstage in Paris during a radio show. It was literally like someone had pulled a curtain over it.” She flew to London the next morning to see her doctor and was diagnosed with acute laryngitis. After a couple weeks’ rest, she continued her European tour, came to America, and then her voice went again in May. “That was a hemorrhage... a burst blood vessel on my vocal cord. That healed, I did a tour, and then it happened again at my best friend’s wedding on October 1.”
On getting support through her surgery from other artists: “John Mayer had it done at the same time as I did and he really helped me be chilled out about it. Roger Daltrey’s had loads of stuff done; Steven Tyler reached out; Elton John. Lots of artists have had problems with their voices, but you don’t know about it. And they are still singing incredibly well in their 50s and 60s.”
On her six Grammy nominations: “I burst into tears when I found out. And I would love, absolutely love, to win. This record is coming to an end, and that would be the final brick on it.” [gallery=821]

FASHION FAB: First Lady Michelle Obama Is Crazy For POLKA DOTS!
First Lady Michelle Obama isn't shy about her love for polka dots. And since she's become a fashion icon in her own right, it's a trend everyone is going for this summer.
See how Mrs. O rocks it inside...
Prints, bold colors, and bright mismatches took over the spring. Now stars, stripes and dots are taking over this summer. And we've noticed Mrs. O is crazy for dots!
This Tuesday, pictured on the far left, the President's better half made an appearance back home in Chicago at The Standard Club in a white flowy Jason Wu dress doused with black polka dots and a black sheer overlay with white polka dots at the top. And completed the look with her signature belted waist.
The Mrs. O retail effect was in FULL effect as the black and white layered and ruffled polka dotted H&M dress she rocked at the "Today Show" back in February (middle), with yellow heels and a red belt, sold out in minutes. She decided to modify the dotted dress to a sleeveless version (far right), and belt it with her fave Alaia belt, for her appearance in Colorado last Thursday on the campaign trail.
And back in May at a Mother's Day Joining Forces Event in DC, Mrs. O paired her dotted blue shirt with a red striped and dotted cardigan for a bold look.
First Lady Michelle may be all about business as she makes her nonstop rounds all around the country for various causes. But her style is all (fabulous) play. Are you feeling the dotted looks for the summer?

Everybody’s favorite pop star paid a visit to Bethenny Frankel on her new show this week, where he dished on his mentor, and cozied up with the former housewife turned talk show host. Beyonce Opening Act Luke James Motivated By Her 'Drive'
After opening for B in Atlantic City, New Orleans newcomer tells MTV News what he's learned from the Queen.

<P>It was the morning after <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a>'s triumphant <a href="/news/articles/1685932/beyonce-michelle-obama-atlantic-city.jhtml">second show in Atlantic City</a> when we bumped into Luke James by an elevator bank at the Revel resort. R&B's reigning diva had tapped the New Orleans native to warm up the capacity crowds as she staged her comeback run over Memorial Day weekend, and James had the unmistakable bop of a man who knows he's done something ... special.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Luke James Learned To 'Give' From Beyonce" id="vid:787005" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Signed to Island Def Jam but still largely unknown to all but soul-music diehards, James had just the night before slayed a roomful of women that included the first lady, Michelle Obama. Armed with a flirty falsetto, James tossed long-stemmed red roses and lines like, "Before I met you, girl, I never knew my heart could dance/ I was just a broken record of one-night stands," from his standout single "I Want You." So what did the handsome upstart think when he heard he'd be opening up for the Grammy winner?</P><P>"The first thing I thought I was, 'OK, I need a band, gotta get the guys together, what we gon' wear, how we gon' do it 'cause I know <i>she's</i> gonna do it ... and what songs," James recalled when he stopped by the MTV newsroom, fresh from the four-night stint.</P><P>After jotting down a few notes on his mental checklist, Luke let himself absorb the moment: "And then I'm thinking, 'This is just an amazing opportunity. ... Dressed casually in a denim button-down and a red knit cap that called to mind old photos of <a href="http://theselvedgeyard.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/marvin-gaye-denim-red1.jpg?w=600" target="_blank">Marvin Gaye</a>, the singer paused for a heartbeat before relaying what lessons he picked up from Mrs. Carter.</P><P>"What I learned from Beyoncé is just the focus, the drive and to stay creative and to always give, just keep giving," he said. "Throughout the years that she's been doing it, since Destiny's Child to now, she's been giving.</P><P>"So this is the beginning for me ... I just want to remain giving and always [be] a necessity to people, you know?" he added thoughtfully. "Giving [fans] what they need. Alicia Keys DISHES DETAILS About New Album! + LeBron James CHATS IT UP With David Letterman
Alicia Keys posted an intimate message to her fans detailing the outline of her upcoming album. Find out what she'll be exploring muscially inside and watch LeBron James on the "Late Show"...
Alicia Keys (shown above in a recent Instagram pic taken by her hubby Swizz Beatz at Revel Resort in Atlantic Casino) recently released a video where she talked about how she has changed personally and its impact on her next album. She said,
“I’ve gone through so much growth and so much realization and realizing that in life different things come and different things change. I’ve learned that I have to trust myself and trust my instincts. I had to and I have to be braver than I’ve ever had to be before.”
She added:
“It’s like I’m a different person. I’m a new person. Everything is new, from being married and having a baby… I’ve become so much more intelligent and I survey the landscape more and try to come up with what’s the best thing for me, what’s the best thing for Egypt, what’s the best thing for our family.”
Though she didn't reveal the album title or a release date, she did share that she's feeling like a caged animal and ready to be released.
“I am hungry, I am an animal right now. I am just ready to be set free in a whole other way,” she said. “When it comes to sharing this music with you, I am like a caged animal that’s dying to escape."

Walking in to a standing ovation, LeBron James stopped by David Letterman's chat fest last night.
And since David was a "hater" towards LeBron when he left Cleveland, he hilariously grilled him about his decision.
David (referring to the 2012 Championship) said, "Well, now that you've got this out of your system, are you ready to go back to Cleveland and play some ball?"
Lebron took the jab in stride saying, "Right now, I'll play no ball right now."
When asked how life has changed since the big win, he said, "I went from being ringless on Wednesday night to, you know, having a ring on Thursday night....so it changed that."

Rapper 50 Cent was rushed to a hospital in Queens, NY early this morning after his bullet-proof SUV was rear-ended by a Mack truck. Deets inside....
A bullet-proof SUV containing rapper 50 Cent was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler this morning, sending the rapper and his driver to a Queens hospital at 3am.
Thisis50.com posted pics and details, including the rapper on a stretcher, and it looks pretty scary. Damage was done to both the MACK truck and the SUV:
50 and his driver were admitted to the hospital where tests were run on their necks and backs. They have both been released, but this could have ended up much worse. Get well soon Curtis!

Carly Rae Jepsen Gets 'Giddy' Talking About LMFAO Collabo
Canadian pop singer describes writing song with Redfoo over the phone.

Carly Rae Jepsen has captured America's collective eardrums with her inescapable hit "Call Me Maybe," teasing just what pop lovers might hear on her in-the-works full-length debut, set for release in September.
In addition to her duet with Owl City on "Good Time" and an already-teased collaboration with her boss, Justin Bieber, the singer has shared that she is also working with LMFAO party rocker Redfoo on the fall release.
"I ran into Redfoo from LMFAO at the airport," she told Billboard magazine, via Ace Showbiz, about the collaboration, explaining that they've been writing together over the phone. So he called her, no maybes about it. "And we've been writing a song together today. Over the phone.
"What I really love about music is that despite all this craziness, the creative process remains the same," she continued. "And that same exciting feeling I had before anybody knew me, when I was just beginning to work on 'Call Me Maybe,' is the same feeling I had today with Redfoo from LMFAO."
Later this year, in addition to dropping her album, she'll also be hitting the road with Bieber on his massive Believe tour, kicking off in September.
"It's not that I didn't have my dream show built in my head before all of this — it's just that I never had the resources together to actually put it to life," she said. "I feel very giddy with the idea of making my imagination take form and being able to put on a show where people leave feeling like they've experienced something."

Lady Gaga's MRI Checks Out Fine

<P>A little more than a week after <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> suffered a <a href="/news/articles/1687007/lady-gaga-concussion-concert-madonna.jhtml">concussion</a> and some <a href="/news/articles/1687141/lady-gaga-on-stage-concussion-photo.jhtml">bruises</a> from an onstage collision with a metal set piece on her <i>Born This Way</i> Ball, the singer got some good news: She's doing just fine.</P><P>"Went for an MRI," she <a href="https://twitter.com/ladygaga/status/215379987283443712" target="_blank">tweeted</a> on Wednesday (June 20). "No harm from the concussion but it appears my brain is just water and a large floating jellyfish." She then shared just <i>who</i> she got the check-up for, adding a little note to her dad. "@germanottajoe i had them check my noodle," she wrote. "that was your father's day present Il mio babbo!! I thought they were taking me to the zoo. TRICKS."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga Will Bring a 'Personal' Touch To 'Born This Way' Tour" id="vid:717952" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>The injury took place on June 10 while the Mother Monster was in New Zealand when a dancer accidentally hit her with a set piece mid-song. She walked off during "Judas" only to return to the stage after a short break to perform 16 more songs. "I want to apologize," she later told the crowd. "I did hit my head and I think I may have a concussion. But don't you worry, I will finish this show."</P><P>Gaga will play several shows in Sydney, including a gig on Wednesday night. She'll play Australia through the remainder of this month before hitting up Europe in July. She has dates slated right through December abroad. The singer, currently on her <a href="/news/articles/1675458/lady-gaga-next-album.jhtml">controversial <i>Born This Way</i> Tour</a>, <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga" target="_blank">tweeted</a> that she will make the announcement this fall. "Exciting news little monsters! I've played my new record for my label and will be announcing my new Album Title in September! X," she wrote.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga Has The Title And Concept For Her Next Album" id="vid:717202" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Gaga has, in fact, been playing the record for her bosses and inner circle. She also revealed on Twitter that she spun the new music, her follow-up to 2011's <i>Born This Way,</i> for her longtime pal Lady Starlight. And her co-manager Vincent Herbert had some of his own <a href="/news/articles/1686196/lady-gaga-new-album.jhtml">teases for Little Monsters</a> in an interview he gave late last month.</P><P>"[It's] just [an] insane, great record. She's on tour right now, but it's just going to be a great record. Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her," he said. "I've started writing it and I have the name for it and all the concepts are beginning to flourish and take place," she said. "I'm excited to put it out, but it's not done yet. So I'll put it out when it's done."</P><P>Her producer, Fernando Garibay, confirmed in a separate interview last year that Mother Monster would be working on the album while on tour. "I get a little bit of anxiety thinking about that right now. I wanna just always try to outdo ourselves, our songs. They're already incredible songs. But I feel like she's so young," he said, adding that at the time, the record was in its early stages and that "there's a lot of room to grow."</P><P>"The last record we made in bus stops and hotel rooms," he said. "Wherever she's at, we'll make it."</p>

<P>You wouldn't peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin.</P><P>In early February, reports began circulating that <a href="/news/articles/1631297/mary-j-blige-records-led-zeppelins-stairway-heaven.jhtml">Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin's classic "Stairway to Heaven,"</a> working with Travis Barker, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her <i>Stronger With Each Tear</i> album, due Monday.</P><P></p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float:left;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:491065" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="configParams=instance%3Dnews%26vid%3D491065" allowFullScreen="true" wmode="transparent" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></div><p></P><P>But after she had recorded "Stairway," Blige continued to get the Led out, covering <i>another</i> Zeppelin classic — the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love" — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the <i>Essence</i> Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you'd probably imagine.</P><P>"I did Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love' — it's crazy," she said. "I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I'm not going to say I've been to their concerts, but I've listened to their music since I was a child, and it's always moved me, especially 'Stairway to Heaven,' and 'Whole Lotta Love' is just fun."</P><P>Blige also said she recorded another new song — a "club record" called "I Can't Wait" — for the re-release. And while it's only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon.</P><P>"I want y'all to hear it," she laughed.</p>

“Glee” star Lea Michele explained that Kate’s character will clash with her own Rachel Berry. "Dance is not Rachel's strong point, but as a freshman it's a requirement class she has to take. It will put Rachel in a very vulnerable place, stuck with a teacher who doesn't make it easy for her."

Keira Knightley Talks About 'Seeking A Friend' ... For Sex
Actress tells MTV News her romance with Steve Carell in 'Seeking a Friend for the End of the World' is not really a romance at all.

The new Keira Knightley-Steve Carell film, "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World," is not a traditional romance for a number of reasons — the main one being the meteor that is headed toward Earth and will likely end all life on the planet.
The other, less cataclysmic way "Seeking a Friend" subverts your typical rom-com tropes is that the relationship at the center of the film isn't—at least according to Knightley —a romantic one. It's just about sex.
Her character, Penny, and Carell's character, Dodge, neighbors who have never spoken, only join forces when they're left utterly alone as the world comes to an end. Eventually, their relationship becomes something more, but Knightley would argue not much more. "I don't know that their romantic arc actually has much to do with romance in the beginning and has more to do with 'It's the end of the world, and we both want to have sex,' " she said. "I think that was sort of more what the romantic arc was hinged on, and then what it becomes is about friendship."
For such a complex on-screen relationship, chemistry between Carell and Knightley became all-the-more important, but the actress said that getting along with her co-star was never a problem. "As far as chemistry goes with Steve, he is one of the loveliest men in the entire world," she said. "He is so funny, and so courteous to everyone. He is a consummate professional. He's just a lovely, lovely man. I defy anybody not to have good chemistry with him."
Carell, who got his start as a comedian, once again shows off his dramatic chops in "Seeking a Friend," and Knightley said he is not one of the funny men who have to be on all the time.
"There are a lot of comics who are fabulous, but are relentlessly [telling] one joke after another, after another, which is completely fabulous, but when you're working, it can be kind of tricky," Knightley said. "Steve's not like that. He is incredibly funny, but he's funny in a way that makes everybody around him feel like they're funny as well. He's incredibly inclusive, but also, he's a complete professional, so he's about getting the best of everybody. If that means having a laugh and having a joke, that's what happens. If that means giving everyone space, that's what he means as well."

<P>Former "X Factor" judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger have remained pretty tight-lipped regarding the news that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lovato__demi/artist.jhtml">Demi Lovato</a> <a href="/news/articles/1685066/britney-spears-demi-lovato-x-factor.jhtml">will replace them</a> on the next season of the Fox show. Until now, that is.</P><P>This week, Abdul sat down with Wendy Williams on her talk show and had only the kindest things to say about both of those ladies.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Spears Explains Why She Wanted To Be A Part Of 'X Factor'" id="vid:769620" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"I think it's going to be great, and I'll tell you why. I think people are anticipating seeing Britney Spears. She's overcome a tremendous amount of adversity. "Her songs are great. She's riding a wave that's really exciting. It's a younger demo."</P><P>Scherzinger is also sending positive vibes Spears' way. She toured with her back in 2009 and added a bit of advice for the pop star. "Britney is so bubbly and warm and everyone loves her anyway, so she just has to be herself," Scherzinger told <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/marc_malkin/britney_spears_new_x_factor_judging_gig/308323#ixzz1vntHzHMj" target="_blank">E! News</a>. "I think that it's something that we can't deny, but there's something about Britney that we ... are always rooting for her and behind her, no matter what."</P><P>According to Britney fansite <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/2012/05/official-x-factor-austin-texas-auditions-post/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed" target="_blank">Breatheheavy.com</a>, Spears and Lovato will sit at the judges' table for the first time on Thursday (May 24) in Austin for auditions. Spears is expected to work an eight-hour day. She will also be in Austin on Friday for more auditions.</P><P>Cowell confirmed at the Fox upfront earlier this month that this week would mark the beginning of filming with the <a href="/news/articles/1685206/britney-spears-x-factor-concept.jhtml">new judges</a>.</p>

<P>"I'm bewildered," <a href="/music/artist/plant_robert/artist.jhtml">Robert Plant</a> said onstage as he accepted the <MTVNLINK type="news" id="1604580">Grammy Album of the Year award</MTVNLINK> with <a href="/music/artist/krauss_alison/artist.jhtml">Alison Krauss</a> on Sunday night. "In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday."</P><P>He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because <i>Raising Sand,</i> which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys/">Grammy</a> album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards.</p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:338316" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="configParams=instance%3Dnews%26vid%3D338316" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></div><p></P><P>You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a> days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history.</P><P>Really, she's the key to <i>Sand</i>'s success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music — so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, <i>Sand</i> was released.</P><P>And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Little Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain.</P><P>And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on <i>Sand.</i> His arrangements are sparse — giving the two voices ample room to breathe — yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project ... and it's certainly justified.</P><P>To date, <i>Sand</i> has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year — "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.</P><P>One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's actually quite a good album.</P><P>"At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. ... Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any good, you know?" <i>New York Times</i> music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really <i>good</i> record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards." </p>

'Fringe' Co-Showrunner Exits Ahead Of Final Season
Jeff Pinkner will not return in any capacity for the fifth and final season of 'Fringe,' creator J.J. Abrams confirms in a statement.

There is a universe in which longtime "Fringe" co-showrunners Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman both stick around to see the story through, but we don't live there.
TVGuide.com reports that Pinkner is exiting "Fringe" ahead of the low-rated but critically worshipped sci-fi series' 13-episode final season "to pursue other projects." Though "Fringe" and Pinkner's separation was apparently "an amicable split," it's nevertheless a shocker for longtime fans: Pinkner has been with the show since the beginning, acting as sole showrunner during season one before sharing that title with Wyman from season two onward. Put another way, a final season of "Fringe" without Pinkner is like a final season of "Lost" without Damon Lindelof: a troubling thought to consider, though some may disagree given the latter show's massively divisive ending.
In a statement, "Fringe" creator J.J. Abrams remained optimistic about the show's upcoming swan song. "We're so excited to begin work on a fifth season of 'Fringe' and to be able to deliver the 13 final episodes to our passionate and devoted fans," he said of the news. "For four years, J.H. Wyman and Jeff Pinkner have worked tirelessly as a team to keep all the worlds in order on 'Fringe.' We're thankful for the invaluable contributions Jeff has made to the show and of course wish him well and look forward to working together in the future. J.H. Wyman's importance to 'Fringe' cannot be overstated, however, and I'm thrilled that he will continue as showrunner for the concluding chapters of our story. We can't wait for our fans to see what we have in store for them in the wild conclusion of 'Fringe.'"
"I will be here until the last frame. We always encourage everyone to pursue their creative paths," Wyman said of the news on Twitter. "This goes for Jeff too. My commitment is to Fringe and our incredible fans."
Though Pinkner's exit is a bitter pill to swallow, "Fringe" fans can take comfort in some newly released details about the show's final season. Series lead John Noble, who plays the wonderfully bizarre Doctor Walter Bishop, confirmed in an interview with TV Line that season five would take place during the Observer-controlled future of 2036 first seen in the fan-favorite season four episode "Letters of Transit." References to the past and even "found footage" will fill the gaps between the fourth season finale and the fifth season's future world of 2036, according to Noble.
"Walter, Olivia, Astrid and Peter are insurgents, so we know all the dirty tricks that have been played against us," Noble said of the supposed new time period. "We'll be learning from the past."
Though Noble's comments have not been confirmed by the show's creators, the title of the season five premiere — "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11," as revealed by Wyman — fits rather comfortably with the actor's vision of the Observer-filled future. If anything will heal the wound of losing Pinkner, it's a full "Fringe" season dedicated to war against those bald, hot sauce-craving creeps.
